Welcome back to a new school year! I hope that everyone had a refreshing and relaxing summer. I did get to squeeze in a vacation with my family, but was busy with SWOEA/OEA/NEA duties as well. This school year will bring many challenges that must be met, both in the classroom as well as outside our schools. The most important work for our members is the upcoming election in November. Please encourage your friends and family to support the endorsed candidates running for the variety of offices. The OEA endorsement shows that that candidate is a supporter of public education and our top priority is to reelect Governor Ted Strickland! You will hearing and reading more about the endorsed candidates in the near future…so stay informed! I would like to recognize two members of the SWOEA family who represented us at this year’s OEA Summer Leadership Conference. First, Karrie Nelson (Mason E.A.) was our contestant in the OEA Idol contest, where she was the grand prize winner! Congratulations to Karrie! Not only did we win the Idol contest, but SWOEA raised more money than any other district! We couldn’t have done it without Karrie’s beautiful voice. Secondly, I would like to recognize Steve Jones (Finneytown E.A.) for coming in first place in the Hot Dog Race during OEA Day at Nationwide Field, home of the Columbus Clippers. Steve was super and will always “relish” in his victory! I would like to invite each of you to attend one of the many workshops we will be hosting throughout the school year. Our committees are already hard at work planning workshops and activities for all members. If you are interested, we would like to invite you to join any of our committees and be a part of Team SWOEA. Enjoy the school year ahead. |
